Since its 2015 incorporation, Akron Engineering has been providing the infrastructures of oil & gas, provincial, municipal and residential sectors with services in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical engineering disciplines, offering a variety of services related to assessment, design, inspections including fall protection systems, construction management, and quality controls. At Akron, we pride ourselves with local resources rich in experience from various industries and technical backgrounds, strengthen by the combined experience of our key personnel and respected shareholders. Akron endeavors to be one of the leading, trusted, consolidated engineering, training, and procurement service providers in the years to come. Besides Akron’s constant support to our regular Alberta based clients, such as AB Infrastructures, AB Environment & Parks, the City of Red Deer, the Town of Bonnyville, the Town of St. Paul, the RMWB, WBH, RRCWB, and ACWB, Akron is providing services to clients based in USA, Mexico, and Libya, all out of our Fort McMurray based head office, while utilizing our competent local resources.

Our business faces many challenges and opportunities. Due to their direct impact on us and our stakeholders, we have prioritized the following issues that need to be addressed:

This policy will apply to all projects managed by our organization. Staff and contractors are expected to uphold objectives under this policy to the fullest extent possible within prevailing budgets and to inform management of financial and other barriers to achieving goals. We acknowledge, that we have limited influence over third parties whose projects we may support but may have limited controls, on the overall management of the projects. While we cannot control the decisions of these parties, we commit to educating them of our policy and encourage them to align operating practices with policy objectives. Our attention to environmental, social and economic responsibility includes working within the law and voluntarily exceeding legal requirements in order to be innovative and demonstrate leadership on the issues that are important to us and our stakeholders including the community. As we design experiences, execute projects and evaluate our success we are able to choose every day in big and small ways how our actions and words build a better quality of life for our employees, clients, project teams, and suppliers.

The Executive management of Akron ensures that its Quality Policy is understood. This is accomplished through training, communication, and displays. The Policy is implemented by means of documentation, and training about the Business Management System to meet the requirements of the Standard. The policy is maintained through Quality Management Systems audits and corrective and preventive action and reviewed for continuing suitability through periodic Management Reviews. Further, this Quality Policy is supported by the quality objectives listed in the Quality Manual. Meeting these standards is the responsibility of the entire team. PRACTICE

In compliance with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta’s (APEGA) requirements, Akron implements APEAG’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) to assure the following are applied on all Akron’s practice

  1. Technical competence;
  2. Quality control procedures;
  3. Compliance with relevant codes and regulations;
  4. Adherence to documentation guidelines;
  5. Akron’s organization structure; and
  6. Lines of Professional responsibilities.

Akron is committed to upholding high ethical standers in accordance with APEGA’s Ethics Code and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s (RMWB) Workplace Inclusion Charter.

 This PPMP is meant to ensure professional conduct through the organization, thus; serving the public interest and upholding the public trust in the engineering profession. By maintaining a culture of professionalism; we serve our clients in an atmosphere of confidence and trust.

Akron’s organizational structure consists of senior management and our in-house  administrative/technical staff. Considering Akron’s small size; we regularly enlist the services of external consultants; thus, our organizational structure might differ, depending on the nature of any given project.

When an external consultant is needed to supplement in-house resources, it is the responsibility of the assigned project coordinator to liaise between Akron and the external consultant.

Dennis M. Heinzlmeir, P.Eng.

Marketing & Operations Director

Dennis Heinzlmeir, P.Eng., is a maintenance, engineering, and business process professional with more 30 years of experience working in the maintenance, EPC, training, and management consulting industries. He has an extensive business background, including all aspects of M&R, engineering, quality management, lean execution principles and techniques, asset management, project management, and safety. He has conducted FMEA and RCM studies and tracked the effectiveness of maintenance activities and tactics.

Nayef Mahgoub, P.Eng., MBA

Managing Director

Founder and Managing Director of Akron Engineering, Nayef, a senior engineer with 30+ years of extensive experience in civil, geotechnical, structural, and environmental engineering, reliability, projects management, coaching, and business development areas. Recognized for strong technical/teaching skills, client relationship management and business development skills. A proven expert in the development and implementation of sustainability, cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Sam Salimi Beni, EMBA

Managing Partner

A high performer and published executive with a demonstrated history of success in business sustainability. Skilled in business analytics,  P&L Management, Strategic Marketing, Technology Development and Six Sigma. Strong professional with an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from Athabasca University. 17 years of solid experience in Carbon Capture, always striving for business excellence with a passion for environment.

Esam Ayed, P.Eng., MBA

Senior Renewable Energy Engineer

Esam carries B. Sc. and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Project Management, and Business Administration, form the University of Calgary, and he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. Esam has over 22 years of experience in the oil and gas, environmental, and waste to energy solutions related projects. He played a major role in building 14 waste to energy plants at various locations. Esam is constantly working with United Nations as an expert in their environment program, which is implemented in 13 countries, with focus on environmental pollution mitigations.

Scott Trueman, P.Eng.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Scott has a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering with over 15 years of diverse experience. Expert on electrical construction, infrastructure, project engineering and management. Experienced in creating electrical engineering drawings, IFC, EHT preparing and maintaining resource loading, 90 days, and job completion schedules, electrical and instrumentation estimate packages and leading groups of people upwards of 50.

Ehab Hamza, P.Eng.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Ehab has 14+ years of civil engineering experience, during which, he managed numerous geotechnical investigations and foundation design for commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential developments. He has worked on projects involving dynamic loads, heavy foundation loads, slope stability analysis and problematic soils. Ehab has spent four years as a consultant engineer for a US based company, working with a programming team to develop a commercial structural design software.

DeHong Lin, P.Eng.

Senior Electrical Engineer

With her +20 years of electrical engineering hands on design experience for onshore residential, commercial & industrial projects and offshore industries projects, DeHong has an experience in DBM, Front End Engineering Design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction and C&SU. She is familiar electrical calculation and analysis, hands on drafting, designing, and reviewing experience.

Mohammad Essa, P.Eng.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Essa has over 15 years of mechanical engineering experience in design, QA/QC, RT, UT, PT, MT  API 510, 570, 1169 and Construction of municipal buildings, gas plants, pipelines, Electrical Power Stations, petrochemical and oil industries projects. Furthermore, he has work experience in HVAC Design of industrial and commercial buildings, familiar with building codes and standards like ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA.

Ashraf Abdel-Halim, P.Eng., M.Eng.

Senior Civil Engineer

Senior Civil Engineer with over 32 years of extensive experience in full design management of civil works and pipelines, execution of non-process assets, pipelines (water supply and Oil & Gas), civil works (water and sewerage networks), construction project management, procurement and business development service. Designed and Executed projects in the water supply projects, petrochemicals, real estate development and infrastructure works.

Ahmad Hazem, M.Eng.

HW & Airport Design Engineering Support

With his 20 years of experience in Highway & Airports design, Ahmad grasps a solid and diversified understanding in designing major infrastructure projects, mainly roads, highways, airports, railways, trails, and multi-modal transport schemes. In addition to his design experience designs, Ahmad coordinates and manages activities associated with transportation projects. Ahmad is very familiar with using different standards/codes, including relevant Canadian, American, French, British, Egyptian, and Arabian Gulf Countries Standards.

Mostafa Khalil, BSc. Civil, MSc.

Wet Utilities Engineering Support

Mostafa is a municipal wet utility engineer with more than 6 years of experience in the design and hydraulic modelling of water, wastewater and stormwater networks and conveyance lines as well as the design of water and wastewater pump stations and treatment plants. He is also a certified instructor for transient analysis and water hammer protection devices from KYPipe LLC. Mostafa is currently working on his PhD in wastewater treatment.

Samy Soliman, B.E., Civil

Civil Engineering Support

A Branch Manager/Project Manager with extensive experience in engineering, construction, civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, reliability, project management, and business development services. Samy represented owners and general contractors in commercial, residential, and infrastructure industries. Specialized in the assessment and the design of required repairs for “existing structures”, including wood, steel and concrete buildings, bridges, roads, manholes, culverts, etc.

Shubham Garg, EIT, M.Eng., PMP, PE

Junior Mechanical Engineer

Experienced Mechanical Engineer skilled in HVAC systems, power engineering, and project management. Successfully oversees the design, installation, and integration of HVAC systems for diverse projects, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with regulations. Proficient in conducting load calculations, designing ductwork, selecting equipment, and providing technical support for boiler operations. Demonstrates strong leadership in project management, from planning and budgeting to execution and risk mitigation. 

Ibrahim Mostafa, EIT, Ph.D., M.Sc.

Junior Structural Engineer

Qualified Structural Engineer with more than eight years of hands-on experience in diverse multi-disciplinary projects during which he provided structural analysis, modeling, and design of Concrete, wood, and steel structures. Eligible to register as a Professional Engineer, have completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from University of Sherbrooke.

Mohamed Alyatem

Civil Engineering Support

Mohamed is specializing in Hydraulic and Environmental Sustainability areas, with more than 5 years of experience in design, project management of various watershed and climate change projects. His holistic thinking led him to go beyond the technical aspects of his field to obtain a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. Mohamed is well experienced in multidisciplinary fields as an excellent research, facilitation, and with design thinking skills that made him grasp a solid and diversified understanding in problem-solving techniques.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Despite Nayef’s broad responsibilities as Akron’s managing director / owner, he is not precluded from giving back to his community.

Furthermore, Nayef, along with most of Akron’s team of professionals, are active volunteers and members of the local: food bank, emergency social services, and Girls Inc. Moreover, Akron’s team constantly collaborates with the local Keyano College, with whom Nayef is a part time instructor, by supporting Keyano’s students who are enrolled with relevant programs through sharing Akron’s real-life experiences, while giving the involved students the opportunities to incorporate such learnings into their graduation projects.

The Government of Alberta, represented by Minister Leela Sharon Aheer, recognized Nayef, as one of Akron’s leaders, for his acts of service, and for demonstrating community leadership. The recognition letter stated: “Nayef’s efforts to support members of his community are admirable, and we appreciate his work to support fellow Albertans during challenging times.”

Akron’s Environmental, Health and Safety manual / practice re. Environmental Policy states that protecting Canada’s natural environment is a national concern.
